Adjusting menus in page management

Written by Steven Veenstra

What do you use the menus in page management for?

The menus within page management are extremely helpful. The menus differ depending on the template/design you're working with. Important things you can often change here are:

  • Main menu (the categories highlighted in the webshop's menu bar)

  • Themes (the themes highlighted on the webshop)

  • Footer columns (for example the contact details, information headings and linked text pages)

  • Other elements that fall within your template/design

Please note!

Within the menu structure of 'page management', you don't change your category structure. Here you only add the categories to the main menu that you want to highlight on the front end, so that customers can navigate easily.

How does it work?

You can adjust the menus via page management. There are a range of options.

Creating a new menu item

  1. Go to "Paginabeheer" (Page management).

  2. In the menu on the left, go to "Paginaboom" (Page tree).

  3. At the top of the page, click "Nieuw menu aanmaken" (Create new menu).

  4. In the pop-up, enter a name and click "Opslaan" (Save).

  5. Fill in all the options on the screen and click "Opslaan en terug" (Save and return) at the bottom.

Edit existing menu items

  1. Go to "Paginabeheer" (Page management).

  2. In the menu on the left, go to "Paginaboom" (Page tree).

  3. Find the menu item you want to edit and click "Wijzigen" (Edit).

  4. Change or fill in the desired fields and click "Opslaan en terug" (Save and return) at the bottom.

Adjust the order of the items

  1. Go to "Paginabeheer" (Page management).

  2. In the menu on the left, go to "Paginaboom" (Page tree).

  3. Navigate to the structure whose order you want to change. Use the arrows to change the order within the structure.

What menu options are there?

When creating or editing menu items, there are several options.

Bovenliggend menu (Parent menu)

If you want to create a new structure within 'Paginaboom' (Page tree), there's no need to choose a parent menu. This option is used to add sub-menus under another menu.

Verwijst naar (link) (Refers to)

You can set up the following redirects.

Productcategorie (Product category)

Direct the menu item to an existing category.

Tekstpagina (Text page)

Direct the menu item to an existing text page. You can select from all text pages within "Paginabeheer > Tekstpagina's" (Page management > Text pages).

Externe link (External link)

Direct the menu item to an external URL. You can determine the external URL yourself.

Taal (Language)

Do you have a multilingual environment? Then you can indicate whether the menu should point to another language. This is handy if you want to create a language switch.

Overig (Other)

Direct the menu item to an existing static page. This can be the shopping cart, homepage or another page.

Doel (Target)

Have you set up a link? Then you can specify how the action should respond when clicked. You can specify whether clicking redirects the current page to the other URL, or whether a new tab opens.

Tip!

A 'new tab' is used when it concerns an external web page. This is intended so that visitors don't leave your webshop.

Afbeelding (Image)

You can upload an image. Not every menu item has this option. It depends on how the design is set up.

For uploading an image, the webshop supports PNG, JPG or GIF format.
